Meeting the Captain: The COO (Backpost)

Kromal had just arrived on board the large Galaxy-class starship and settled in. After reviewing his checklist upon arrival, he decided to go ahead and situate himself by meeting the Captain. As he unpacked in his quarters and made himself presentable, he tapped his combadge.

=/\= Lieutenant Ezazzan to Captain Misaka, are you available at the moment for a meeting? =/\=

The comm suddenly activating with a call caught Misaka off guard. She wasn't expecting such a call out of the blue. She sat bolt upright at her desk, she had been bogged down with paperwork for the last few hours so this was a welcome distraction. She tapped her comm badge. "Misaka here, I am available at the moment. Come to the ready room." she replied simply.

After replying, the newly minted Chief Operations Officer made his way upward the few decks necessary to reach the bridge. Afterward he gave a few nods to the bridge watch as he headed to the ready room. The doors slid open and the Gorn entered, standing at attention as he presented himself.

"Lieutenant, Junior Grade Kromal Ezazzan reporting for duty," Kromal announced. "Thank you for seeing me, Captain. I am happy to be your ships Chef Operations Officer."

Misaka looked up from behind her desk. "Ah yes, our new Gorn officer," she said ushering for him to take a seat. "I'll be honest, I've never heard of a Gorn serving in Starfleet before."

"That is... not an uncommon statement," Kromal confirmed as he took a seat. He was instinctively careful of his tail as he sat, comfortable, and crossed a leg casually. "It's taken quite some time for me to acquaint myself to the Federation, Clan Ezazzan has had some trouble in its history acclimating and while, in recent decades, it's been uneventful there are still situations to consider that do pop up."

"I see," Misaka replied. "Well, you've managed to obtain the position of Chief Operations Officer and on a Galaxy Class nonetheless. You do realise that officers wait years to serve on ships like this? It's quite the accomplishment." She explained to him.

"I suppose that I've had some experience," Kromal admitted. "Originally I was an Operations Officer for Clan Ezazzan. I moved forward into Starfleet and obtained proper certification in Operations, with secondary certifications in Engineering and Security. I eventually would serve as Assistant Chief Operations Officer on board an Ambassador-class starship."

A moment of silence as the Gorn considered Mikoto. "You've seen my files, yes?" He asked.

Misaka nodded. "Yes, I've had a good read of your file. How familiar are you with Galaxy Class systems? We still have some of the most advanced technology aboard," she explained to him.

Kromal nodded, "As I said I have familiarity with an Ambassador-class. While not entirely similar to a Galaxy, it is in many ways a precursor and the launch-bed for the Galaxy Program. In some ways, I feel confident that I can quickly familiarize myself. I know, however, I have much studying to do."

"Indeed you do," Misaka replied giving him a serious look. "I expect the very best from my officers. With the looming threat of the Dominion on our heels, we need every officer on this ship at their best. Tell me Lieutenant, how do you plan on getting upto speed?"

"As any good Officer would do; Research, hands on experience, and familiarizing myself with the active systems," explained Kromal.

Misaka pondered for a few moments. "Well, you seem like someone who can get it done quickly." She said in response. "Do you have any questions for me?"

"Not at this time," Kromal said, shaking his head. "I believe I should get to work on studying up. I believe the computer will come in handy as well."

Misaka nodded. "Yes, all of the information regarding the ships systems are available in the ships database." She looked the Gorn up and down, he did seem eager to learn and to become better. She could appreciate his enthusiasm. "If I were you, go take a tour of the ship. Have a good look around and get to know where everything is, a Galaxy Class Starship is much bigger than most people realise. Maybe you should also check out Engineering and other areas too." She suggested.

"Yes Captain," he stated, nodding. He noticed how she looked him up and down, but regarded it as more of her appraising him than anything. "As soon as I depart, I'll start a guided tour. I'm sure the ships computer has such a program?"

"Yes, however I can assign Commander Juutilainen to join you if you wish?" Misaka asked.

Kromal thought a moment. Having the Executive Officer assist in a tour was absolutely an honor. He nodded after a moment.

"I appreciate the hospitality. I would like that," replied the Gorn happily.

Misaka tapped her comm badge. "Misaka to Juutilainen. Our new Chief of Operations has arrived. I want you to take him on a tour of the ship, show him the ropes and where everything is." She said.

"Understood, Captain:" Eila responded. "Have him meet me in my office, and we'll start from there:"

Misaka closed the comm and looked at the Gorn officer. "Well Lieutenant, what are you waiting for?"

"Aye, Captain," Kromal replied.

He promptly left the Captains Ready Room and left a deck or two down to enter the Executive Officer's office. He pressed the button for entry and, once allowed, stepped into the office. Commander Juutilainen was not what he expected. He blinked, then stood at attention.

"Reporting as ordered, Commander."

"You were expecting someone else, Lieutenant?" Eila asked as she stood up from her desk. At her full height, Eila stood shorter than the Captain, which meant that the six foot five Gorn towered over her. Yet, the Commander showed no fear, acting like the presence of a Gorn was just another day at the office. "Captain Misaka told me you were coming. I believe I have a tour to give you?"

"Yes, Commander," the Gorn replied, standing a bit straighter. He realized he might of ruined first impressions already. "I appreciate your hospitality."
