Lieutenant Kenneth Hunt had boarded the Galaxy class ship as soon as it docked at DS9. When he first was told that he would being reassigned to the Ermiana, he did his research and studied up on the ship. But seeing it in person, pulling up to dock was, the ship was far larger than he expected. Hell, it was so big that there were families actually on board. While his things would be delivered to his quarters. Kenneth made his way to security to report for duty. Reaching the office, he pressed the chime waiting to be called in.
Lurath sat at his desk, reviewing security reports and listening to some low Klingon opera, when he heard the chime. He let out a slightly annoyed grunt as he place the PADD down. For a brief moment he was tempted to pick up the farthest one from all the other PADDS. The one he was able to get with some of the news and rumors coming out from the Klingon Homeworld. It showed KDF movements and battle reports. Updates on certain House's in the Empire and where they stood, as well as, casualty reports. After turning away from the PADD, and turning off the Klingon Opera, he finally stood up and made his way toward the door.
When he reached it, he took a moment to adjust his Uniform and Klingon Baldric, before tapping the console by the door to open it. As the doors swooshed open and his eyes locked with Kenneth, he put on a stern look and spoke in a deep tone. "What is your purpose here, Lieutenant?"
Kenneth straight at the position of attention. "Lieutenant Kenneth Hunt reporting for duty Sir."
"Lieutenant Hunt." Lurath repeated before adding. "Last starships were the Alabama and Alamo. Aside from weapons and tactical training, you also marked your specialties in Judo, Dom-jok, and Basketball." He gave him a stern grim before a bit of a smile formed. "The name rings a bell." The hybrid Klingon walked away toward his desk. "Enter, Lieutenant."
Kenneth did as instructed and entered the room. Looking around the decorated office, he things from several cultures.
Lurath's office seemed a mixture of two cultures. A combination of Klingon and Betazoid decorations. From various Klingon weapons and small statues with Betazoid paintings as well as calming candles. If there were every two worlds that clashed with each other this was a room that represented that struggle. He gestured to the chair in front of the desk before walking to the replicator. "Have a seat and be at ease. Drink?"
"No thank you." Taking a seat, he looked around once more before speaking. "Betazed and Klingon works of art. You put a lot of work in this office space."
Lurath smiled slightly as he tapped on the replicator. "I was born of two worlds, Lieutenant. My father is Klingon and my mother is a Betazoid. They each had different plans for my siblings and I. Some of of those plans often clashed with each other." He tapped the console again before saying firmly in a near flawless Klingon accent. "Bahgol and a small bowl of Uttaberries."
The replicator produced a decorative tea cup and bow on a metal tray. Lurath took the tray and turned around to Kenneth as he walked towards his desk chair. "I have spent time on both Qo'noS and Betazed. Treated by some as an outsider on both worlds. However, it did not turn me away from wanting take in the beauty of both." He placed the tray on the desk and got back into his seat. "Tell me about you, Lieutenant."
"Raised by two college professors on Earth," Kenneth answered. "Normal life growing up in Houston, Texas. My grandmother and grandfather both retired out of Starfleet. The Hunt family goes back to the founding of the Federation and have always served with the exception of my father and his brothers. I would see my grandparents when they visited and heard what they were doing and I knew Starfleet is where I needed to be. You have seen my record, so I won't discuss it, unless you wish too. But I like to look out for the weakest amongst us. Big into sports and highly competitive"
Lurath took a sip from his tea cup and leaned back in his chair. "My fathers side also has a legacy with the Klingon Empire. My father was a respected General of the Klingon Defense Force. He's retired now, but I heard all the songs and stories of my grandfathers victories in battle. My Uncles would always be quick to tell us stories of their own." He paused a bit to smirk as he added. "Always with a goblet of bloodwine in their hands. So, you can imagine their disappointment when I choose Starfleet over the KDF. My brother, Anan, is their last hope to maintain that Klingon Legacy. My Uncles, as well as my father to an extent, isn't convinced I will achieve Klingon Greatness and earn my place in Sto-vo-kor alongside with my ancestors as long as I wear this unform, but I was taught that not every battle can be won with a weapon and not every enemy carries one." He took another sip of his tea and looked firmly at Kenneth. "So... tell me something that's not in your file. Something not many people would know."
Kenneth raised an eyebrow as he stared across the desk. "Most don't know this, but family has been involved in a blood feud with the Klingon House of Doube, since 2226. It all started over my great great grandfather Captain Tyler Hunt Jr. who tracked Greu who killed his younger brother Lieutenant Andre Hunt. Every generation since at some point ended up crossing paths and fighting out. Guess with the Kithomer Accords out the way, then I guess that increases the possibility of conflict. Not sure how familiar you are with that House or your relationship with them. Guess its best to get it out all out in the open now."
Lurath raised his hand to take another sip of his Bhagol, but soon stopped at the sudden mention of a blood feud because Hunt's family and the House of Doube. He was not only familiar with them, but both their families were in good standing. As he lowered his tea cup he locked eyes with Kenneth. "I am familiar with the House of Doube. Very well, actually. Our houses are allied and, at one point, there was an interest in wedding their only daughter with... me." As he placed the tea cup down, he leaned back into his chair and looked firmly at Kenneth. "Tell me... How involved are you in this blood feud?"
"Never seen any of them in person or spoken a single word," Hunt answered. "My grandfather killed Greu III on Nausica back in 2298 in hand-to-hand combat. Since then, no issues. My father and Uncles never joined Starfleet, so they never came anywhere close to the Klingon Empire."
Lurath looked at Kenneth intently, a difficult to read expression on his face, so it was hard to tell if he was concerned or angry. He knew what a Klingons duty was when it came to blood feuds. Even though his house wasn't the ones who were responsible, there was still and obligation to do something as an allied house of the one who was responsible. The hybrid Klingon picked up his tea cup again and said. "From what I remember of the Doube House, it wouldn't surprise me if there was more to all this then anyone has been told. My father always told me to be careful when dealing with their children, but he never told me why." Finally, he took a sip of his Bhagol as he added. "I have no desire to participate in your blood feud. So, you can sleep soundly." He added a slight laugh before taking another sip.
The Lieutenant couldn't help to laugh as well. "My family and I appreciate it."
"I'll look forward to be working with you, Lieutenant." Lurath replied with a smile and nod. "I'll forgo my usual speech. Dismissed."
