Mission: New Beginnings
Location: Ready Room

Mikoto sat in her ready room going over the ship reports that had already come into her. She was far than satisfied with some of them. They were sloppy, not well put together and screamed the fact that this was a brand new crew.

Tapping her comm badge she sighed as she put down the science department report. "Commander Taylor. Report to the ready room" she said simply. This was a good time to go over a few things while she had a few spare moments.

Mac looked at her Commbadge sighed as she tapped it and said: "ON my way Captain." She stood thinking about what Commander Cayne had said it made her feel uncomfortable so she straightens her uniform out and goes to the ready room and tapped the chime.

"Enter," came the response simply.

"Captain, you wanted to see me?" Mac said with a smile. "How are you, Captain? She asked as she walked the ready room. Mac stood to attention.

Mikoto nodded. "Yes Commander, I'm fine, thank you. However, I wanted to properly talk with you. It seems..." she pushed a few of the PADDS towards her "That some of these new crew have never written a solid report before" she explained.

"Maybe some of these crewmembers have not been in a position of leadership or their department didn't expect them to write full and in-depth reports," she said she read a couple of the reports that lacked details. she looked at the reports "Maybe we got new graduates on board?" she looked quizzically at the Captain.

"Its a possibility" Mikoto pondered. "However I would appreciate it if you brought some of these officers up to the standards that Starfleet expects," she said. "That reminds me, we've got our first assignment."

"Of course, Captain." she said as she looked with a smile "where is our Milk run going to take us?"

"Viridian three," Mikoto said simply. "If you haven't heard the latest, two days ago the Enterprise was destroyed there. The Saucer section crashed landed on the surface of the planet. Luckily there were few casualties, however, with a pre-warp civilisation on the neighbouring planet, we have been tasked with removing all sensitive Starfleet equipment and take the salvage teams to start their work" she explained sliding a PADD across the desk with the details on.

She took the PADDand Nodded. She knew Scott's brother Virge was on the Enterprise D."Understood Captain." she looked down at the PADD and hoped Virge was safe an uninjured. she could get casualty reports and see who was on there. She decided against that route. she knew would contact Scott as soon as possible.

"Once we get underway, I want you to hold a staff briefing bringing everyone up to speed," Mikoto said. She stood up from her chair, tugged down on her uniform. "These new uniforms keep riding up on me..." she said, "Am I the only one finding them a little more annoying than usual?" She asked as she stepped into the side room to access the replicator. "Tea?" She asked.

"Lemon tea with a touch of honey please?" she asked "I find them more comfortable." she rubbed her arm absently looking at her arm. She stared at Mars.

Replicating the tea, Mikoto placed hers and Mac's on the desk. "Still, I wanted to let you know that this is my first command like I said in the briefing. I would appreciate it if you would stop me from making an utter fool of myself when things get tight around here" she explained

"Captain, there is something you should know." she sighed "You will be fine. Starfleet would have picked you if they didn't think you were ready."

Mikoto sipped her tea. "Oh?"

"I have been having strange dreams like I am seeing someone else who looked like me," she said sipping her tea.

"I'm no counsellor you know. Could this be related to your new position? It's never easy adjusting to a new place?" Mikoto asked. Indeed dreams often showed what the unconscious was thinking, and even she sometimes had strange ones late at night.

"Maybe... I worked on the ship and helped build her up from the bottom to the top. I was given the lead on the Ermiana." she smiled.

"Yes, that's why out of all the candidates I chose you. You know this ship, what can you tell me about her? I served on the Venture another Galaxy Class but every ship is different" Mikoto asked changing the subject. The idea was to stop the Commander thinking about those dreams through distraction.

Mac thought "This ship has a few modifications since the destruction of the USS Odyssey in 2370, the neck has been shortened to prevent attacks and damage to the neck. The warp core has better shielding to prevent it from being destroyed by firefights in Engineering. The shields and phasers have been upgraded." MAC said with a smile look at the captain.

"I see" Mikoto replied. "Its good to know that the revisions will make this ship better in a tactical situation". Coming from a security & tactical background Mikoto knew the importance of the capabilities of the ship. "Well, I'm still allowing families on board, so we should have a crew complement of just over a thousand people. How many are we still awaiting the arrival of?"

"310 mostly enlisted and a few junior officers." She said. "Can I ask you a question?"

Mikoto nodded.

"Apart from the reason of me building the of Ermiana., Why did you pick me as the XO? I'd rather be in engineering you do realise that?" she asked. "I am an engineer by training, not command..." She broke off. "This my chance to shine."

"You showed promise," Mikoto said. "You're a capable engineer, but you needed that extra push. Your file showed that you're good at commanding people when you need to be, but would always back out of a command position. Since you put in your application for a command position on the ship, I decided it best to give you that extra push you needed" she explained. "Plus, you've got the necessary skills and traits that I was looking for"

Mac looked and felt more pressure than when she was given the lead engineer's role in building the Ermiana. She hoped it didn't show. "Thank you, Captain, I will do my best, "Mac said.

Mikoto nodded. "I expect nothing less," she said. True Mikoto had high standards, but she wanted to run a smooth tight ship. She didn't want any of her crew to fall behind or become incompetent. "Is there anything you wish to bring up while we're here?" She asked.

"Nothing comes to mind at present Captain," Mac said holding her head high.

"Very well, then by all means dismissed."

Mac stood up and looked at Captain "Thank you for this chance." Mac said.

Mikot simply smiled at Mac as she left. "You're welcome" she thought to herself. She hoped that the push would do her good, just like the same push that she had got from Captain Buxton when she herself was made an executive officer.
