Where Legends Once Stood

Mission: Cleaning Up
Location: Enterprise Bridge

Captain Misaka stepped out of the functioning turbolift. Luckily the engineers had got a few working to enable easy access around the saucer of the Enterprise. She arrived on deck one, the main bridge. She wanted to see it for herself. Indeed it was no different from the bridge of the Ermiana in configuration, design and fittings. However it had so much history that it was a special place to be, for any Starfleet officer.

Smiling she made her way down the ramp onto the slightly raised platform where the three leather command chairs were. She ran a hand over the back of the larger centre chair.
"Picards..." she said to herself. She had never met the Captain, but his accomplishments on this ship alone were well known and some considered legendary by most.

This is where he had sat while doing most of them, on this ship. She couldn't help but wonder of the Ermiana could one day have a similar legacy. She smirked. "No way I could be like him." This was the exact spot where he had done so many things. The discovery of the secrets at Farpoint Station and first contact with Q as well as the Federations deadliest enemy; The Borg.

She looked around checking no one was around before sitting down. It felt a lot bigger than hers on the Ermiana, even though they were the same chair. She ran her hands over the smooth leather of the arm's and took a deep breath. The Starship Enterprise had always been 'the ship to serve on' even in the days of Kirk, Harriman, Garrett and now Picard.

It wasn't just the ships captain who was well known, but his senior staff. Riker, Data, Worf, Troi, Le forge, Crusher all very well known names across Starfleet. Mikoto couldn't help but wonder what they were all doing now. She had heard rumours of a plan to launch a replacement Starship Enterprise of a new more advanced design. Of course thats all they were, rumours. She was unsure which ship could be classed as Starfleets current flagship with no Enterprise around to fly the Federations flag across the stars.

Luckily this part of the ship wasn't scheduled to be dismantled until tomorrow, so she cpuld have a good look around. Pulling herself up she stepped forward where the helm and operations consoles once stood. In the crash landing they had been thrown forward by the impact and now had been dragged out of the way, no doubt to make space for the S&R teams.

The viewscreen was all blown out, only the holographic display grid behind it showing. The consoles and bulkhead between the bridge and ready room had been blown out. The remains of Picards ready room could be seen through the damage. His desk, made of smooth black glass and polished wood now littered with debris and dust.

"Shame" she said. "I'd have loved to see it intact" she told herself. The ready room was a sacred place for Starfleet Captains, it didn't seem right to go in, even with the rank on her collar. All she did was mod at the empty chair behind the desk. The man who had once sat there had been a great captain, he had gone through so much for his crew and ship.

Mikoto turned away from the ready room back towards the rear turbolift. She ran a hand over the smooth wooden horeshoe as she passed the embedded tactical console.
"Thanks guys" she said simply. "Make the next Enterprise even more special".

Smiling she stood behind the tactical console and looked down on the command area. She couldn't help but wonder what it must have been like to be on this ship during The Borg invasion four years ago. She herself had seen the devastation and slaughter at Wolf 359, however this ship, The Enterprise had arrived late. She knew that they had been attempting to stop them and even though their Captain had been abducted and assimilated they had carried on.

It wasn't just the Borg invasion that this ship was famous for. The first encounter with the super being menace known simply as Q, the actions of catching the Romulans interfering in the Klingon Civil War, and one of it's most recent missions; to stop a El-Aurian from destroying solar systems for his own gain; which resulted in the ships destruction.

Without another word she moved slowly towards the rear turbolift and stepped inside. She had one last look at the bridge, it would soon be dismantled and its many components stored in her ships cargo bays. The doors swished closed and the last Starfleet Captain left the bridge of the USS Enterprise, NCC 1701 D.
